I tried (admittedly not very hard) to watch this adaptation. Unfortunately, it was too painful. I couldn’t make it past the third episode—which is even sadder than it sounds because the episodes are only about twenty-five minutes long.
The 1972 version of Emma is now my second favorite adaptation of the novel. I didn’t expect to like it (my experiences with the pre-1990’s adaptations have been less than stellar), but this one is actually very good.
Fair warning: Mr. Knightley is NOT attractive and has NO chemistry with Emma. But trust me, Emma and Harriet are so wonderful that you won’t even care about him in the end.
